Review
A brilliantly insightful dissection of her years in captivity -- Jon Ronson Guardian An excellent book -- Kathryn Hughes Mail on Sunday Thoughtful, unflinching and remarkably devoid of self-pity... Remarkable - not just for Kampusch's account of her ordeal but as a testament to her indomitable spirit -- Daisy Goodwin Sunday Times

About the Author
Natascha Kampusch was born on 17 February 1988 in Vienna and became victim, at the age of ten, to what proved to be one of the longest abductions in recent history. In 2006 she gained her freedom. On the day she escaped, her abductor Wolfgang Priklopil committed suicide by throwing himself under a train. Since then Natascha has been trying to live a normal life. In spring 2010, aged 22, she graduated from university.

Not riveting but very painful story
By Ellie
Honestly I feel nothing but compassion for Natascha Kampusch. She underwent a horrendous ordeal at the hands of a deranged human being, kidnapped and kept captive in a dungeon for eight years. Snatched as a child, Natascha grew up in a locked room, leaving, family, freedom, friends and her entire life as she knew it, behind her. A person changes in the years between ages ten and eighteen- how can one possibly emerge with any degree of normalcy and stability? She lost out on so much fun, growing , and learning during those years; instead, this young girl knew terror, imprisonment, hard labor, pain and torture. She even grew to accept her captor as her only human contact and perhaps felt out of necessity, some fondness for him.Her own family life had not been ideal, so who knows what emotional state this child was in? A 'perfect' victim? Natascha emerged to a new world once she broke free, her captor committed suicide, and by all accounts, she grew up and went on with her life.

The book is very well-written, even detached and objective. The author keeps some details of her ordeal private and the reader respects her for that. However, for some reason, I found the book hard to get through. I felt a little bored as day after day was described, maybe mirroring a miniscule degree of the tedium NK experienced? I hope Natascha is able to continue to heal- I wish her all the best after such an ordeal.Very brave to write this book.

I am not trying to imply that the book was boring, as certainly it was a horrific experience
By Eva M. Dixon
I cannot imagine what Natascha Kampusch went through but I found the book monotone and repetitious. I understood her anguish while in captivity and her determination to survive, yet it took me several nudge from my conscious to pick up the book again and again to finish it. I am not trying to imply that the book was boring, as certainly it was a horrific experience, but knowing that the story was true, I suppose I expected more details. By the way, I came from her neighborhood country and I knew all the areas that she tried and failed to describe.
