Finally, it discusses applications of EO and MEO in multiobjective optimization, systems modeling, intelligent control, and production scheduling.

The authors present the advanced features of EO in solving NP-hard problems through problem formulation, algorithms, and simulation studies on popular benchmarks and industrial applications. About the Author

Professor Yong-Zai Lu (IEEE Fellow since 1998) earned his diploma degree from the Department of Chemical Engineering, Zhejiang University, China, in 1961, where he currently is an emeritus professor with the Institute of Cyber Systems and Control. He previously was a consulting professor at Shanghai Jiaotong University and a senior consultant at Supcon Co. China. During 1991 to 2003, he held senior consulting and technical positions at Bethlehem Steel Co., i2 Tech Inc. and Pavilion Tech Inc. in the US. He was a full professor and director of research at the Institute of Industrial Control, Zhejiang University, from 1984 to 1991. During 1980-1982, he was with Purdue University as a Visiting Scholar. He has supervised about 80 PhD and MS students. His research interests include system modeling, optimization, advanced control, intelligent control and computational intelligence, and their applications in production scale and real-world complex systems. He has authored and co-authored numerous SCI and EI papers and a number of books. He received National Science and Technology Progress Awards in China in 1989 and 1993, the ISA UOP Technology Award in 1989, and AISE Kelly Awards in the US in 1995 and 1996. He served as the President of IFAC from 1996 to 1999.

Dr. Yu-Wang Chen is a lecturer in decision sciences at the University of Manchester, UK. Prior to his current appointment, he was a postdoctoral research associate at the Decision and Cognitive Sciences (DCS) research centre of Manchester Business School, the University of Manchester, and a postdoctoral research fellow at the Department of Computer Science, Hong Kong Baptist University. He earned his PhD degree from the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2008. He has published over 30 journal and conference papers. His research interests include multiple criteria decision analysis under uncertainties, modeling and optimization of complex systems, and risk analysis in supply chains.

Dr. Min-Rong Chen is an associate professor at the School of Computer, South China Normal University, China. She worked at the College of Information Engineering, Shenzhen University, China, from 2008 to 2015. She earned her PhD degree from the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, in 2008. She has published over 20 journal and conference papers and has been PI for two Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) projects. Her research interests include evolutionary computation and information security.

Dr. Peng Chen is a postdoctoral fellow at the Department of Control Science and Engineering, Zhejiang University, and research engineer at the Research Institute of Supcon Group. He earned his PhD degree from Shanghai Jiaotong University, China, in 2011. He has published over 10 journal and conference papers and been working on a number of production-scale research projects on industrial process modeling and control. His research interests include extremal dynamics and computaional intelligence, system modeling, and optimization control.

Dr. Guo-Qiang Zeng is an associate professor at the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Wenzhou University, China. He earned his PhD degree in Control Science and Engineering from Zhejiang University, China, in 2011. He has published over 20 journal and conference papers. He received the Best Poster Paper Finalist and Best Student Paper Finalist from the 8th World Congress on Intelligent Control and Automation, 2010. He also received an NSFC funding on an extremal optimization oriented project. His research interests include computational intelligence, micro-grid, power electronics, complex networks, and discrete event systems.

To a novella of the same title, Shirley (...And the Angel with Television Eyes) adds a lengthy aftermath that, though it couples clunkily, offers a crafty elaboration of the dark metaphysics in the original parable about corporate greed. Nine years after the benevolent Conscious Circle group exorcised the ravenous demons who arose in response to toxic disaster, it's business as usual in America. Stephen Isquerat, a na‹f climbing the corporate ladder at the West Wind company, is convinced like most everyone else that the past demonic convergence was a hallucinogen-induced exercise in mass hysteria. Little does he know that his company's interest in "psychonomics," the manipulation of the spiritual power of business, is laying the foundation for a demon resurrection, or that his work marketing Dirvane 17, a potent neurotoxic pesticide, is making him the perfect vessel for their second coming. The first part of the novel is a fascinating if talky take on clinical demonology that greases the wheels for escalating events in the second part. Though the author conceived the two halves of his story as variations on the same theme, their differing approaches seem out of synch, a problem most notable in the perfunctory relationship of Conscious Circle members to Stephen's experiences. Another excellent short novel from Cemetery Dance folks.

When it comes to John Shirley, you have to take your chances. In my humble opinion, I find him a writer of widely varying quality (though one who steadily improves, there is little backsliding in his work). If one goes as far back as CELLARS, there is really not much to recommend; however, Mr. Shirley has produced such excellent work as: IN DARKNESS WAITING; WETBONES; and, most recently, DEMONS. This is a terrific short novel--well-paced, gripping, and solid. Mr. Shirley's mastery of this short form is impressive. A sense of dread is pervasive thoughout, though his prose is lean and to the point.
In this most imaginative premise (though I sense some inspiration from John Ostrander's DEMON WARS arc in the GRIMJACK comics), unstoppable, murderous demons have suddenly appeared on Earth. They can make their presence known anywhere and anytime. With no defenses, humans must make their way through this hell on earth as best they can (this is Shirley's most interesting facet in the book--how John and Mary Sixpack continue about their daily business in this new dystopia).
It was a pleasure to read DEMONS, and I look forward to Mr. Shirley's next work.

Just fair to middlin'

I'd like to say this was terrific, cause the story itself sounded great. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it. The story didn't keep my attention and there was just not a lot there.
If you really want to get this, I'd recommend the book, not the audio tape. Its entirely possible that I was annoyed at the reader's voice more than the story.

Important History Lesson

Recently finished "Swarms", and I must say it has really helped bring to light some critical issues. I especially appreciated the history lesson on the church and the ideas purported from pulpits across America in this age -- where these ideas started and how they trace through to today.
It's amazing that most of us can go through our Christian lives and never hear about these things.
This is something Christians need to read. I think it's important to know history and know from whom most of the current main-stream Christian thoughts come.

Michael Bunker in Swarms of Locusts traced the path of the "free will" doctrine through history. He reveals the free will doctrine as a false gospel, which has been nurtured and promoted by the Roman Catholic Church. That false gospel rejects the sovereign grace of God in his election of those for salvation. It has found its way into modern Protestant theology. This injection of the Catholic theological poison into nominal "Christian" denominations is the result of a satanic conspiracy. This strategy will give rise to an ecumenical movement that will ultimately result in the nominal "Christian" denominations falling under the yoke of the Vatican.

Bunker explains that the false free will gospel doctrine was labeled Pelagianism after a fifth century A.D. theologian named Pelagius. Pelagius preached that man was completely free to do good or evil, and that God's grace only facilitated what man would choose in his own free will. Palagius further taught that man had a free will and could choose his own salvation. Pelagius, in order to remain consistent with his free will view, also taught that man could choose to fall away and lose his salvation by his own free choice. Pelagianism was seen by the Christian community as a false gospel and so it never really took hold.

Less than a century later, a form of Pelagianism rose from the ashes; it was known as Semi-Pelagianism. Under Semi-Pelagianism, man was fallen and his will was hindered by sin, but not totally so. According to Semi-Pelagians, man is not spiritually dead, but only spiritually sick. They taught that man could utilize his faith to cooperate with God in facilitating his own salvation. Semi-Pelagians accepted that God was sovereign but at the same time they promoted the inconsistent view that man had free will in order to choose whether to be saved. Semi-Pelagianism became the generally accepted doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church and was later codified as such at the Council of Trent (circa 1547). Semi-Pelagianism was promoted by a Jesuit priest named Luis de Molina. Molina taught the Semi-Pelagian view that God predestined believers to salvation but at the same time man had a free will to choose to be saved. This doctrine became popularly known as Molinism.

The Roman Catholic church knew that Protestant Christians would never adopt Molinism if it were known to have sprung from a Jesuit priest, so they decided to use a front man in order to introduce this false doctrine into the Protestant churches. They used a man named Jacobus Arminius (1560-1609), who was an admirer of Molina, to popularized the free will doctrine of Molina among Protestants. As a result of the successful efforts of Arminius and other Jesuit agents, Molinism has since become popularized not as Molinism but as Arminianism.

Many view Arminianism as an orthodox Christian view of Scripture, when in fact it is a corruption of the gospel that has been injected into the Protestant denominations by Jacobus Arminius. Arminianism is simply repackaged Roman Catholic doctrine. Arminiasm has been promoted by "Christian" luminaries all over the world including but not limited to John Wesley and Charles Finney of yesteryear to today's Billy Graham, Dave Hunt, Chuck Colson, Chuck Swindol, Chuck Smith, and Hank Hanegraff.

God, on the other hand, has made it clear in the Holy Scriptures that he is sovereign and salvation is by his grace through faith in Jesus Christ.

Starting with the earliest infiltration of Jesuit influence on Protestant doctrine, Bunker takes the reader step by step to present day wolves who are leading people astray. With biblical references aplenty to back up all doctrinal statements and practical ways to recognize who are wolves and who are sheep, the reader is given a clear lesson in what is truth and what is deception. A must read for all truth seekers and a real eye opener for those who have been lulled to sleep by the so called "Christian" church.

Definitely Worth the Read

Almost anything written by William MacDonald is worth reading, and this book is no exception. His style is clear, he adheres to Scripture and does not waste our time with silly stories and meaningless illustrations, as is common with many current Christian books. He gets to the heart of the matter and gets there quickly.

Obviously this book deals with the classic debate on eternal security. Can a believer lose his/her salvation? For those wrestling with this question, this book is a gem. As the title implies, MacDonald does a nice job of showing that those who truly have placed their trust for salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ are secure forever.

Charles Stanley, in his book, "Eternal Security: Can You Be Sure?" would agree with MacDonald on the subject that real believers are eternally secure--but Stanley does a terrible job with the subject. About the Author

Dr. Karen Rosen is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Boston College, where she teaches courses in developmental and clinical psychology. She also serves as the Director of the Psychology Honors Program and of the Undergraduate Clinical Concentration. In addition, as a Senior Staff Psychologist at Brookline Psychological Services, her clinical practice focuses on a range of psychological issues, including attachment and self-related disorders.

Dr. Rosen received her Ph.D. from Harvard University. Her research on parent-child attachment relationships and sibling relationships has been published in many scholarly journals and in several edited books. She has presented her work at both national and international conferences.
